Three N.J. hospitals earn 5-star ratings from CMS

Holy Name Medical Center, Atlantic Health System’s Morristown Medical Center and St. Luke’s in Warren are the only three hospitals in New Jersey to get a 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

CMS announced the quality-based ratings Thursday after months of delay and a recalibration of the ranking method.

The changes, according to various reports, created a greater number of 1-star-rated and 5-star-rated hospitals.

“This latest report designating Holy Name as one of the highest-quality providers in the state is a reflection of the strong emphasis we place on quality and safety,” said Michael Maron, CEO and president of Holy Name Medical Center. “To go from 4 stars to 5 stars validates the efforts of our entire health care team. Less than 5 percent of the state’s hospitals achieved 5 stars. The patient experience is a priority to us and it shows.”

Of the state’s nearly 70 hospitals, CMS rated 64.

“The health care landscape continues to evolve, and consumers are seeking greater transparency from providers,” said Adam Jarrett, chief medical officer at Holy Name. “This report is a signal to patients that quality and safety are an integral part of our culture and by setting the standard, we are giving our community what they deserve — access to the highest level of care.”
