In an effort to care for the growing number of northern New Jersey residents diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, CareOne opened Harmony Village at CareOne Paramus last week.

The center is 100 percent dedicated to memory care — the only facility of its kind in Bergen County, the Fort Lee-based health care company said.

“With the increasing demand for new and progressive care options for people living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, our goal is to provide a safe and engaging assisting living community that reflects the high standard of care that CareOne has become known for,” CareOne Chairman and CEO Daniel Straus said in a release.

“We are proud to bring this much-needed specialized care to Bergen County and look forward to welcoming all our residents.”

More than 5 million Americans (including 170,000 New Jersey residents) are currently living with Alzheimer’s, and as many as 15 million (including 210,000 New Jersey residents) expected to be affected by the disease by the year 2050.

Harmony Village is Care One’s attempt to attend to this looming health care crisis, the company said.

The center has 124 private one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartments, each with its own private living room. The company said it will offer innovative memory-care programs designed to help residents maintain the highest possible quality of life, as well as optimal cognitive and physical functioning, the company said.

Residents will have access to 24-hour certified nursing care and on-staff dementia specialists who are dedicated to balancing independence with safety and well-being, as well as innovative technology and best practices.

In addition, residents have access to the same conveniences and amenities provided by traditional assisted living communities, including daily housekeeping services, transportation to and from personal appointments, specialized activities and recreation, and restaurant-style dining, the company said.

CareOne’s expansion in Paramus marks the 32nd location in the state for the senior care provider.

CareOne is one of New Jersey’s largest family-owned, health care providers, and one of the largest privately-owned health care companies in the United States.
