Parsippany-based The Medicines Co. announced Tuesday it has appointed Christopher Visioli its new chief financial officer and treasurer, effective immediately.

Visioli will succeed William B. O’Connor, who is retiring from the company after serving as chief accounting officer and then CFO. O’Connor will remain with The Medicines Co. as an advisor through 2018, assisting Visioli with the transition.

Visioli will report directly to Clive Meanwell, CEO.

“Chris brings extensive leadership experience and broad operational expertise developed over a long and successful career at The Medicines Company,” Meanwell said. “Chris will play an important role as we continue to successfully execute on our strategic plan. I know that the Company will benefit from his expertise, insight and experience, and I and the rest of the Company’s Board of Directors look forward to working with him. In addition, I would like to personally thank Bill for his contributions to the Company over more than a decade of successful service. Bill will continue to serve as an advisor as we wind down our legacy businesses, and I wish him luck in his retirement upon conclusion of this important work.”

Prior to his appointment, Visioli was senior vice president, financial strategy of the company from 2015 to 2018, and vice president, cardiovascular care, from 2013 to 2014. He joined The Medicines Co. in 2003. Prior to that, he was a management consultant at Ernst & Young.
