The law firm Gibbons P.C. has named its second-ever chief diversity officer, it announced Thursday.
Robert L. Johnson will also serve as a director in the firm’s Corporate Department, overseeing the award-winning Gibbons Diversity Initiative as well as developing and supporting various workforce and workplace inclusion programs, the firm said in a news release.
“Rob’s wide range of talents, interests and vision makes him exactly the right person to take the reins of our nationally recognized Diversity Initiative, while also expanding his role in delivering the exceptional service that the clients of our highly regarded Corporate Department have come to expect,” Patrick C. Dunican Jr., Gibbons’ chairman and managing director, said in a prepared statement. “We are proud of his achievements and look forward to his upcoming efforts.”
Johnson is the Newark-based firm’s second diversity chief, succeeding Luis J. Diaz. Diaz left Gibbons earlier this month to become general counsel and chief cybersecurity officer with Fairfield-based cloud software firm Vision-e.
Johnson’s legal practice will continue to focus on mergers and acquisitions, securities regulations and other corporate transactional matters, the firm said. He has been with Gibbons since joining as an associate in 2007, except for a two-year stint as assistant counsel to Gov. Chris Christie from 2010 to 2012.
Diaz, who had also been a director in Gibbons’ Intellectual Property Group and a founding member of the Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Practice Group, will oversee the tech company’s legal matters and assist in the development of cybersecurity solutions for the print industry.
“Cybersecurity is a great concern to all U.S. companies that utilize copier and print services, especially those in specialized fields like health care, financial and legal services,” he said in a statement from Vision-e. “I am excited to join Vision-e to help deploy its next-generation platform that is cyber-secure by design.”
Gibbons has more than 200 attorneys in offices in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Delaware.
