Sax LLP, one of the state’s largest accounting firms, has become even bigger with the acquisition of Hunter Group CPA LLC, it announced Monday.
Sax, based in Clifton, will take over the Fair Lawn-based firm effective Nov. 1, it said in a news release. The resulting firm will have 30 partners and 168 total employees, working out of three offices, in Clifton, Fair Lawn and New York City.
“Our aim is to provide our clients with the highest level of expertise and service offerings,” Kevin J. Hansen, Hunter Group’s co-managing director, said in a prepared statement. “We believe this alliance with Sax will thrive on our similar service philosophy, joint expertise and commitment to our clients’ lifelong business and personal financial goals.”
Both firms, which each celebrated 60 years in business in 2016, were among the Top 25 firms in New Jersey by size, according to published reports. The combined firm would likely be among the 10 biggest in the Garden State.
“The addition of Hunter Group brings common synergies and complementary strengths that will enhance our role as our clients’ most trusted advisers,” Joseph A. Damiano, Sax’s managing partner, said in a statement. “This strategic move was taken with our clients and our people in mind, and Hunter Group’s decades of experience and commitment to New Jersey businesses and families will benefit our entire client base and team.”
Joseph Tarasco, CEO of Accountants Advisory Group, consulted on the transaction.
