Fashion conglomerate ascena adds segment president

Fashion retail company ascena retail group inc. has named a new president of its Plus Fashion unit, which includes well-known brands Lane Bryant, Cacique and Catherines, it announced Monday.

Eric Hunter joins the company from Pier 1 Imports, where he had been executive vice president of marketing since 2013.

“After a comprehensive search process, we have found an outstanding individual to assume leadership of these iconic brands,” David Jaffe, chairman and CEO of ascena retail group, said in a prepared statement. “Eric has a track record of strong leadership, vision and strategy, both inside and outside of retail, that makes him uniquely qualified to lead our Plus Fashion segment into the future.”

Hunter has more than 20 years of marketing experience with retailers and other businesses, including JCPenney and Kellwood Co.

“Eric’s broad experience and focus on the customer makes him well-equipped to take on this essential leadership position,” Gary Muto, CEO and president of ascena Brands, said in a statement.

The ascena company, based in Mahwah, runs specialty brands across four units, including Plus Fashion, as well as Premium Fashion, Value Fashion and Kids Fashion. It has about 4,800 stores in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico, as well as a series of e-commerce websites.

“I’m very excited to join ascena and contribute to the company’s transformation and growth efforts by leading Lane Bryant, Catherines and Cacique,” Hunter said in a statement.
