North Plainfield commercial real estate company Levin Management Corp. reported recently that gyms, in a range of price points and sizes, are one of its most active tenant categories in terms of leasing retail space.
“With New Year’s resolutions for healthy lifestyles on everyone’s mind, this is a good time to reflect on the vital role fitness tenants are playing in shopping center tenant mix,” LMC President Matthew K. Harding said. “They have become sought-after center staples and are significant traffic drivers, which benefits their co-tenants.”
Most of LMC’s gym leasing activity appears to be coming from national chains looking to expand. Just this year, the Zoo Health Club and the MAX Challenge are gearing up for early 2018 openings at Somerset Shopping Center in Bridgewater and Blue Star Shopping Center in Watchung, respectively. And in Franklin, Crunch Fitness has opened a location at Rutgers Plaza.
