Maryland sports company buys Hamilton’s Ice Land

A Maryland company has purchased the Ice Land Skating Center in Hamilton Township, home to a number of youth hockey and other sports organizations.

Black Bear Sports Group Inc., based in Chevy Chase, made the center its seventh ice rink, including locations in Illinois, Maryland and Pennsylvania, it said in a news release.

“We’re very excited to be investing in the vibrant hockey community in Mercer County and growing the Mercer Chiefs program,” BBSG CEO Murry Gunty said in a prepared statement. “We continue to invest in the people and facilities at all of our rinks, and look forward to providing an exceptional customer experience at Ice Land.”

Ice Land, which features two sheets of ice, also owns and operates the USA Hockey-sanctioned Mercer Chiefs youth hockey club, which participates in Tier I and II travel programs.

Gunty founded BBSG in 2015 to invest in sports and entertainment facilities. Its seven facilities total 12 ice sheets and two indoor turf fields.
