Newark Schools cuts ribbon on central office

Newark Public Schools recently held a ribbon-cutting to celebrate the official opening of its new central office, which will house 350 employees.

CBRE said it represented NPS in the move to a 97,000-square-foot building at 765 Broad St. in Newark.

“Creating the best environment for our employees and families was a priority for us in choosing this location,” said Christopher D. Cerf, the outgoing superintendent of Newark Public Schools. “Our new location allows us to move forward to create an expanded culture of collaboration and progress in the Newark school community.”

“We are creating $2.3 million in annual savings by moving into this new space,” said Valerie Wilson, school business administrator. “We are saving taxpayer dollars while servicing our students and community in the best possible way.”

A street-level center at the property will be dedicated to family support and community engagement, as well as housing a science laboratory and technology center in its lower level.

“CBRE is pleased to help Newark Schools in its mission to deliver more resources to students through savings, efficiencies and collaborative space utilization,” said Cheryl Hardt of CBRE, which represented Newark Public Schools in the 16-year lease transaction.

The new spot is within walking distance to Newark Penn Station.
