Pernix Therapeutics promotes finance exec

Morristown-based Pernix Therapeutics Holdings Inc. has promoted an executive to senior vice president, chief business officer and principal financial officer.

Angus Smith has been with the specialty pharmaceutical company since September 2014 in a variety of roles, the company said in a news release.

“Angus has demonstrated strong leadership as we have improved our profitability, increased the company’s financial flexibility and now seek to license and acquire innovative products to leverage our sales, marketing and corporate infrastructure,” John Sedor, Pernix’s chairman and CEO, said in a prepared statement. “We look forward to Angus continuing to make significant contributions in his new position as we further strengthen and grow our business.”

Smith, who will report directly to Sedor, will be responsible for oversight of Pernix’s financial operations, working in conjunction with Glenn Whaley, vice president, finance, and interim principal accounting officer. He started with the company as vice president, mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance, and was promoted to vice president, business development and strategic planning, in July 2016.

Pernix also named John R. Leone, operating partner at investment fund Madryn Asset Management, as its lead independent director on the board.
