President Donald Trump has fired former Morristown Medical Center President David Shulkin as secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Shulkin, whose potential dismissal had been rumored for some time, will be replaced by the president’s physician, Dr. Ronny Jackson, according to a tweet from Trump’s personal account Thursday night.
I am pleased to announce that I intend to nominate highly respected Admiral Ronny L. Jackson, MD, as the new Secretary of Veterans Affairs….

Recently, several officials in Washington, D.C., and doctors in New Jersey told ROI-NJ that they hoped Shulkin would be allowed to stay at his post, despite an investigation into improper financial matters and reports that Trump was unhappy with the secretary. Read their remarks on ROI-NJ.com.
Shulkin, who also had been part of former President Barack Obama’s administration, was approved 100-0 by the U.S. Senate when he was initially appointed by Trump to the VA secretary’s role.
