The Seton Hall-Hackensack Meridian Medical School is officially being referred to as the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine following a change in financial responsibility between Seton Hall University and Hackensack Meridian Health.
The change was first reported by NJ Advance Media.
The health system sees it as a simple evolution of the terms of agreement, which is common in partnerships.
“We have reconfigured the financial terms so that Hackensack Meridian Health has achieved the objective of securing the destiny of the School of Medicine and launching an institution that will be innovative, dynamic and a national leader in medical education,” the health system said.
The school is set to open for a class of 55 in the summer.
To-date, the school has received at least 2,000 applicants for those spots.
Hackensack Meridian also has ongoing discussions with donors interested in naming rights for the school, but so far none have been finalized.
