John Ballantyne, the executive secretary-treasurer of the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters, has been named the new chairman of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, the union announced Thursday.
Ballantyne’s new role represents the second major leadership change at the NJSEA, following the February appointment of former Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto as the organization’s new CEO and president.
“I am extremely humbled and honored to be named as the chairman of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority,” Ballantyne said in a prepared statement. “I look forward to working with the NJSEA leadership and board of commissioners to ensure the region remains a vast force for driving commercial, industrial and economic growth at one of the most widely-recognized sports and entertainment organizations in the country.”
The sports authority operates the MetLife Sports Complex in the Meadowlands, home to football’s New York Giants and New York Jets, as well as host for hundreds of major sporting and entertainment events.
