Pru unit adds head of disability and absence management

Prudential Group Insurance, a unit of Newark-based Prudential Financial Inc., has hired a vice president and head of Disability and Absence Management, it announced Tuesday.

In his new role, Leston Welsh will be responsible for the strategic direction of the company’s disability and absence management products, services and capabilities.

“Leston brings to Prudential broad, multidisciplinary experience, including voluntary benefits, sales and operations, risk management and actuarial,” Jim Gemus, senior vice president and head of product and business segments for Prudential Group Insurance, said in a prepared statement. “We are thrilled to have him join Prudential Group Insurance.”

Welsh will report to Gemus.

In the VP role, Welsh, who was most recently senior vice president and chief operating officer of Unum’s Starmount Insurance Co., succeeds Jake Biscoglio, who is leading a business development initiative for Prudential’s Workplace Solutions Group.
