Atlantic Health, MedExpress announce joint venture

Atlantic Health announced a new joint venture with West Virginia-based MedExpress Urgent Health Care on Thursday.

The new relationship entails 11 urgent care locations in northern New Jersey and provides a new continuum of care, allowing AHS to capture patients who visit the urgent care center but need more attention.

“Our collaboration with MedExpress is another way we are improving access to affordable care and assuring that our community has convenient services in their neighborhood. By joining together and not engaging in traditional siloed, competitive approaches, we create best practices that improve care and accessibility — ultimately decreasing costs,” said Amy Perry, CEO of the hospital division at Atlantic Health System.

MedExpress has two dozen locations in New Jersey, and is part of Optum, UnitedHealth Group’s physician arm. Atlantic Health is one of the largest health systems in the state.

“We are collaborating with Atlantic Health System hospitals and physicians to better serve the community while increasing value for our patients and honoring patient choice,” said Gary Derk, vice president of MedExpress. “Our partnership with Atlantic Health System will help ensure that patients receive the most appropriate care at the right setting at the right time. Our centers offer walk-in treatment seven days a week, 12 hours a day, for everyday illness and injury as well as more advanced services, including X-rays, IVs, labs, minor surgery, stitches and treatment for broken bones, sprains and strains.”
