Lakewood medical supply companies buy seller of scrubs for ‘murses’ (male nurses)

AvaCare Medical and Medical Scrubs Collection, two Lakewood-based sister companies, have acquired the world’s largest online men’s scrub store, they said Monday.

The medical supply companies’ ownership group said in a news release that it has purchased Murse World, a Los Angeles-based company that bills itself as the first scrub company aimed specifically at men in the health care professions.

(The company says its name is an upbeat take on a derisive term for male nurses.)

“We see this as an opportunity to grow our market share in the medical scrubs industry, as well as to get into this growing demographic of male doctors and nurses,” Steven Z. Zeldes, CEO of AvaCare Medical and president of Medical Scrubs Collection, said in a prepared statement.

Murse World’s focus on male professionals gives customers a wider range of options, the release said.

“This acquisition brings a new dynamic to our company and allows us to offer our current male customers with a wider selection of products,” Mark Bakst, CEO of Medical Scrubs Collection and chief financial officer of AvaCare Medical, said in a statement. “This is a very exciting development for us.”
