Wittig named chairman of orthopedics at Morristown Medical Center

James C. Wittig, an orthopedic oncologist and sarcoma surgeon, has been named the new chairman of orthopedic surgery at Morristown Medical Center and the system-wide medical director of orthopedic oncology at Atlantic Health System, effective Aug. 1.

James C. Wittig.

Wittig will be responsible for quality and excellence of operational performance across Atlantic Health System’s six hospital.

“I am filled with gratitude by the opportunity to serve at this capacity and to lead an incredible department within this premier institution,” Wittig said.

“Although most would agree that oncology cases are the toughest, I am truly challenged by each and every diagnosis, confronting them with a customized plan as individual as each patient,” Wittig said, “and, now, the opportunity to lead an incredible team of world-class orthopedic surgeons at the only New Jersey hospital to be rated as one of the nation’s top 50 Best Hospitals is humbling. The orthopedic surgery department, and hospital system as a whole, not only shares the same commitment and personal devotion to orthopedics as myself, but strives to maintain the highest standards of care to each and every patient. Our mission as doctors is truly sustainable at Morristown Medical Center.”
