A multifamily residential development is set to be constructed in West Orange and will break ground on Wednesday, officials involved in the ceremony said.
The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. at 22-24 Central Ave. between Valley Road and South Jefferson Street and include New Jersey Housing, Mortgage Finance Agency, The Alpert Group and local officials.
The multifamily property will be situated in the Valley Arts district of the town, which is within close proximity to the Highland Train Station, Luna Stage and the West Orange Arts Center.
“This project is a major facelift to one of our oldest and most-treasured corridors,” said West Orange Mayor Robert Parisi. “This is a great moment for the Valley and a wonderful opportunity for everyone throughout the region.”
The project will construct a five-story building with 100 units. Forty-five of them will be rented at market rate, 55 will be designated as affordable rental units and 11 will be considered low and very low-income households under the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s HOME program.
“We are extremely excited to finally begin construction on the Valley Road Residential Project in West Orange. We thank Mayor Parisi and believe that with the tremendous support of the Township of West Orange, this project will be a catalyst for the continued revitalization of the entire Valley neighborhood,” Joe Alpert of The Alpert Group said.
