Jersey City-based Arch Insurance announced that Valerie Turpin has been name executive vice president and head of U.S. property.
Turpin is succeeding Michael Kmetz, who has taken on a new role at the firm.
Turpin will be responsible for overseeing the Excess and Surplus Property and U.S. Retail Property divisions. She will report to Michael Price, EVP and chief underwriting officer.
“Valerie is a recognized leader in the industry and has a proven track record of building out a property team and leading it into new segments,” Price said. “We’re impressed with her strategic thinking and leadership style and know she will bring a new perspective to both her team and the leadership group at Arch Insurance.”

Prior to Arch, Turpin was at American International Group as senior vice president, Midwest property and special risks. Before that, she held senior roles as a risk engineer and underwriter in both the U.S. and European markets.
