Grindage restaurant opens in downtown Montclair

Local leaders cut the ribbon on the newest business in downtown Montclair, Grindage Wood Fired Pizza & Sandwiches.

The property is located at 438 Bloomfield Ave., the former home of Mancinni’s Coal Oven Pizza.

Grindage will offer a variety of original pizzas, fresh salads and savory sandwiches, it said, like its meatball ricotta pizza, Cremini mushroom pizza, white vegetable pizza, a Tuscan kale salad with pine nuts, a pan-seared skirt steak sandwich with chimichurri sauce and more.

“We are so excited to join the thriving dining culture in Montclair,” Lee Mangravito, co-owner of Grindage Wood Fired Pizza & Sandwiches, said. “We’re keeping the most popular elements of the Mancinni’s menu, along with its chef, Joe Profita, and adding new pizzas, sandwiches and salads we think the community will love.”

The new restaurant will be partnering with businesses and restaurants in Montclair, it said, collaborating on monthly menu specials and sourcing local ingredients that way.

“We are very excited to welcome this new, late-night pizza spot to our community,” Montclair Mayor Robert Jackson said. “Its location along Bloomfield Avenue and delicious menu will make it a destination for pizza lovers visiting and living in Montclair.”

The restaurant is co-owned by Mangravito and Jarrett Bennett, also a co-chef. Profita, formerly of Mancinni’s, will now serve as the head chef.

“Whether you are in the mood for traditional wood-fired pizza, a quick lunch, or a late-night slice with friends, Grindage provides an experience that will be enjoyed by all,” Bennett said.
