Refrig-It leases 140K sq.ft. at new Newark facility

Refrig-It Warehouse, a cold storage warehousing company, has leased 140,000 square feet at a Newark industrial facility, according to CBRE.

The real estate firm said the company signed a lease at the newly constructed, 290,000-square-foot facility at 233-287 Miller St., developed by Gladstone-based Penford Group and Connecticut-based Penwood Real Estate Investment Management.

The deal represents the first major commitment at the project, CBRE said.

CBRE’s David Gheriani represented Refrig-It, while CBRE’s team of William Waxman, Mindy Lissner and Ben Shapiro arranged the lease on behalf of the ownership group. Eric Brown, Eric Wagner and Mike Wood from the New Jersey Project Management team will assist Refrig-It with permitting and infrastructure buildout.

“Given the trend of increased demand for cold storage and food-grade spaces in the market, finding a strategically located building was a necessity,” Gheriani said in a prepared statement. “Working together with our brokerage team, we were able to pair Refrig-It with a newly developed property located in Port Newark’s epicenter with easy access to New York City.”

The state-of-the-art warehouse space will feature cooler and freezer storage, with 40-foot clear heights, loading docks, a backup generator and more, CBRE said.
