FrieslandCampina lands 2nd U.S. cheese importer

Global dairy company Dutch Royal FrieslandCampina N.V., which has its U.S. headquarters in Paramus, has acquired New York-based importer Best Cheese Corp. USA to strengthen its position in the American market, it announced Wednesday.

FrieslandCampina also recently acquired Jana Foods, an importer in Iselin. This is the company’s second acquisition in the United States, it said.

Best Cheese is an importer and vendor of specialty cheese, including brands such as Parrano, Robusto, Melkbus and different Gouda styles.

“As a part of our transformative strategy, we continue to focus on delivering the best product to serve consumer’s needs. The Americas is a strategic growth market for us. By acquiring Best Cheese and Jana Foods we will be able to grow our cheese business in the region further,” Roel van Neerbos, president of FrieslandCampina Consumer Dairy, said.

Under the deal, Best Cheese will become part of FrieslandCampina Consumer Dairy U.S.A. The former shareholders of Best Cheese will not continue to be involved in the business, it said.

“The combination of Best Cheese’s USA position as an established specialty cheese vendor and the strength of FrieslandCampina as the leading supplier of Dutch Cheese, will take the success of our brands Parrano, Robusto and Melkbus to the next level,” Willem Jan Rote, former owner Best Cheese, said.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
