Jersey City Medical Center gets $1M gift from Lord Abbett for new maternity wing

Jersey City Medical Center, a RWJBarnabas Health facility, announced Thursday it has received a $1 million donation from Jersey City-based investment manager Lord, Abbett & Co. to support and expand maternity services.

Through the donation, the facility will establish the Lord Abbett Maternity Wing of Jersey City Medical Center.

“As a firm celebrating our 90th Anniversary, we believe that the strength of our firm is its people, and the strength of our people is family,” Douglas B. Sieg, managing partner of Lord Abbett, said.  “We are thrilled to announce our partnership with Jersey City Medical Center and the greater community, which will fund and initiate the founding of the Lord Abbett Maternity Wing.”

The new center will be comprised of 17,500 square feet with 20 private rooms.

“Our vision is to create an environment where every woman who delivers at our hospital will have a private room where she can heal after giving birth, bond with her newborn and immediate family, and spend time together with her extended family,” Lance Bruck vice president and chairman, Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women’s Health, Jersey City Medical Center, said.

The project is expected to begin in February and will be complete by the end of the year.

“We are extremely grateful to Lord Abbett for this very generous donation,” Michael Prilutsky, CEO and president, Jersey City Medical Center. “Our partnership in building this outstanding new maternity unit will help heighten and support the well-being and growth of this community. Together, we both want the best for everyone who lives and works in Jersey City.”
