Medical technology firm names chief medical adviser

Medality Medical LLC, a Midland Park-based medical technology company, announced Wednesday that Dr. Laurence Hirsch has been named the company’s chief medical adviser.

Hirsch, who has nearly 40 years of clinical and professional experience in the diabetes management field, will lead development and implementation of Medality Medical’s clinical development strategy.

He will initially focus on a clinical trial of Medality’s proprietary device and surgical procedure designed to reverse type 2 diabetes and related obesity. The FDA recently granted approval for the trial, Medality added.

Hirsch spent 13 years in his most recent role, vice president – global medical affairs for BD’s diabetes care unit. While at BD, he worked with Edward Gillen, now Medality’s CEO.

Hirsch has also worked for Merck during his corporate career. He is board certified in internal medicine, as well as in endocrinology and metabolism.
