Unilever plans to buy French derma-cosmetic firm

Unilever, the global household goods company with U.S. headquarters in Englewood Cliffs, has made a binding offer to acquire a French derma-cosmetic company, it announced Wednesday.

Garancia, founded in 2004 by pharmacist Saveria Coste, offers premium facial and body skin care products sold through pharmacies and retailers.

Financial terms of the offer were not disclosed.

“Garancia is one of the leading brands in pharmacies, with a strong positioning between natural and science, offering fantastic beauty products with a touch of magic,” Vasiliki Petrou, Unilever executive vice president and CEO Prestige, said in a prepared statement.

The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter, subject to customary approvals and conditions.
