Rutgers Athletics reveals new strategic vision, aimed at excellence

Rutgers Athletics has announced its new strategic vision, dubbed “The Relentless Pursuit of Excellence,” at the university celebrates its 150th anniversary as “the birthplace of college football” in 2019.

The five-year plan unveiled by Director of Athletics Pat Hobbs establishes the department’s core purpose, according to a news release, including five core values:

  • Excellence: We bring our best;
  • Integrity: We do what is right;
  • Respect: Everyone is important and a contributor;
  • Accountability: We are responsible for our actions; and
  • Grit: We persevere through challenges.

In addition, four strategic priorities focus upon student-athlete excellence, leadership, culture and program success — each with a set of goals designed to transform to the athletic program.

“The development of our strategic vision was done in a collaborative manner across many constituencies,” Hobbs said in a prepared statement. “We represent the state of New Jersey, and as the Big Ten’s New York metropolitan area program, we intend to compete for championships at the conference and national level.

“This is much more than a declaration of aspirations, it’s a pathway to future success. It brings focus to our student-athletes, our coaches and staff, our alumni and our fans. We have great momentum, and, with Jersey grit and determination, our best days lie ahead.”
