McElroy, Deutsch, Mulvaney & Carpenter LLP announced Thursday that Fruqan Mouzon has joined the Morristown-based law firm as an of counsel member.
Mouzon will establish and chair MDM&C’s Cannabis Law Practice Group, it said, and provide counsel in commercial litigation, white collar criminal defense and government relations.
Mouzon, who has extensive experience in New Jersey government, previously served as general counsel for the New Jersey State Senate Majority Office. In addition to that, he also served as assistant counsel for former Gov. Jon S. Corzine and as an adjunct professor at Seton Hall University School of Law.
“The firm’s decision to establish a new Cannabis Law Practice Group was driven, in large measure, by the addition of Fruqan, because we have been seeking an individual with his experience, credentials and reputation. Many law firms have established cannabis practices over the past few years, but we purposely waited until our firm could offer the combination of legal, industry and political expertise that’s necessary for clients to succeed in this complex and rapidly emerging market. Fruqan brings those assets to MDM&C, and will build a cross-discipline team to address the needs of new and existing participants in the cannabis business,” Edward B. Deutsch, managing partner, MDM&C, said.
Mouzon will be based in the firm’s Morristown office, it said.
