Latina entrepreneurs in the wellness, technology and lifestyle sectors will have the opportunity to win a $12,000 business services package later this year at the 2019 Pitch Your Business Competition, held at the annual Latina SmallBiz Expo and Pitch Competition in Jersey City.
Latinas in Business, the organization behind the expo, said Wednesday that it is accepting registration for the event. Twelve finalists will be selected — four in each track — to present a three-minute pitch to a panel of judges.
“National Business Capital & Services is proud to support Latinas in Business in their efforts to bring resources and awareness to Latinas and other minority women entrepreneurs,” co-founder and President Joseph Camberato said in a prepared statement. “ … We are honored to celebrate the strength, vision and innovation of Latina entrepreneurs by sponsoring this competition and offering a $2,000 cash prize to the winner, as well as support and provide complementary services to all 12 finalists.”
The pitch competition will take place Nov. 8 at the Culinary Conference Center, 161 Newkirk St., Jersey City. The winner will receive $2,000 in cash and $10,000 worth of business services.
“We are also grateful that Rutgers School of Business is cohosting the pitch competition this year, offering a seat at the Entrepreneur Pioneers Initiative Program — $6,000 value plus $500 registration scholarship — for the winner to help her build and expand her business,” Latinas in Business CEO and President Susana Baumann said in a statement.
Participants must be Latinas or of Latino origin, and own the business or at least a 50% partnership, as well as a unique product or service — no franchises or independent agents — according to Latinas in Business’ news release on the event. Participants also must have been in business for at least two years and have a legal structure in place. They must be registered as expo exhibitors, at a price of $150, but can sell or offer products during the expo with registration.
