The Standard at New Brunswick hit another milestone toward completion last week, when Landmark Properties held a topping-out ceremony for the upscale 21-story mixed-use facility.
The property, located at 90 New St., is less than a half-mile from the main campus at Rutgers University, allowing it to serve as a luxury apartment option for both students and young working professionals.
The 303,758-square-foot building’s 186 units offer floor-plan options ranging from studios to five bedrooms. There will be 682 bedrooms in total.
Construction, which is being overseen by Gilbane Building Co., is expected to be finished in 2020.
The Standard will feature amenities such as study spaces, a state-of-the-art fitness center and terraces. It also will include three levels of above-grade parking that accommodate 111 new parking spaces.
The ground level of the development, totaling 2,000 square feet, will be reserved for commercial, office and retail spaces, as well as public plaza walkways.
Landmark Properties CEO and President Wes Rogers said the building is being created to capitalize on downtown New Brunswick’s heavy foot traffic and vibrant urban scene.
“The Standard at New Brunswick is going to be an incredible addition to downtown and Rutgers communities, providing a high-quality living option for nearby students and citizens,” Rogers said in a statement.
“We are excited to work collaboratively with Gilbane on this project as we watch our collective vision take shape, and we look forward to welcoming residents to their new homes next year.”
Gilbane, one of the nation’s top developers of student housing, is providing construction management agency services.
“We are very proud to lend our expertise, alongside Landmark Properties, to this important project,” Gilbane Senior Vice President Bill Gilbane III said.
“The Standard will provide high-quality apartments and amenities to the students who will become tomorrow’s leaders and offer retail space that will serve the entire downtown community.”
