Josh Walker is director of career development and community engagement at Centenary University.
We asked him how college study abroad experiences make a job candidate more marketable.
“The uniqueness of studying abroad helps a candidate stand out, but the skills developed abroad do so much more. Soft skills are such an integral part of career success. These skills are often the result of stepping out of one’s comfort zone and experiencing new things. Few experiences force a person to grow and develop as quickly as total submersion in a new culture. Skills like communication, self-reliance, adaptability and problem-solving are highly sought by employers, and easily forged while studying abroad.”
