N.J. American Water to invest nearly $500K in Somerdale infrastructure

New Jersey American Water on Tuesday said it will spend approximately $470,000 to replace about 1,800 feet of aging water main in Somerdale, starting this fall.

The Camden-based utility said it will upgrade the 6-inch water lines with new 8-inch ductile iron main along North and South Hilltop Avenue from West Maiden Lane to Ogg Avenue. The project also includes replacing two fire hydrants and installing a new one as well as replacing 42 service lines along the route.

Pioneer Pipe Contractors will begin work on Dec. 2 and expects to finish by year’s end. Work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Final street restoration is expected to be fished by spring 2020.
