RWJBH picks Horizon exec as new chief transformation officer

Dr. Paul Alexander has joined RWJBarnabas Health as its senior vice president and chief transformation officer, the West Orange-based health system announced Thursday.

Alexander comes to RWJBH from Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, where he was vice president and chief medical officer, government programs.

In his new role, Alexander will be responsible for organizing assets for the system during its transition to value-based care, including Accountable Care Organization management, the employee health plan and other resources.

“As a well-respected physician executive, Dr. Alexander’s expertise is invaluable in our system’s journey toward value-based care,” RWJBH Chief Financial Officer John Doll said in a prepared statement. “His educational approach to the overall health of our communities will prove very effective, and we are fortunate to benefit from his unique insight.”

Alexander has also held leadership positions in the life sciences industry and with other health insurance providers.
