CarePoint names Moulick, chief transition officer, as new CEO

The board of CarePoint Health has named Dr. Achintya Moulick as its new CEO, it announced Tuesday evening.

Moulick had been brought in from Alvarez & Marsal as the health system’s chief transition officer during CarePoint’s transitional period starting in February. CarePoint has been trying to sell its three New Jersey hospitals, Christ Hospital in Jersey City, Hoboken University Medical Center and Bayonne Medical Center, a process marked by an unsolicited takeover bid by Hudson Regional Hospital.

“The new challenges that health care systems face require leaders with significant clinical as well as administrative experience,” Moulick said in a prepared statement. “I have been very impressed by the quality of clinical and administrative leadership in our three hospitals, and I look forward to helping the hospitals care for all of our patients.”

Moulick, a cardiovascular surgeon, has held a variety of leadership positions building programs and hospitals. He has an MBA and Master of Surgery in addition to his M.D.

“A major focus of this role will be helping guide the hospitals to new opportunities and allow our system to innovate, ensuring we keep a step ahead of the clinical challenges today and into the future,” he said.

The announcement came a day after BMC Hospital LLC, the favored bidder for Bayonne Medical Center, detailed its plans for the hospital.
