Atkins Co., Woodmont convert retail building into medical space in Washington Twp.

Atkins Companies and Woodmont Properties, both commercial real estate firms, announced on Monday they have broken ground on the third and final planned 10,000-square-foot retail building at Washington Square Town Center in Washington Township.

This building marks the final phase of a 35-acre project that will include 330 residential apartments, 100 townhomes, an assisted living facility, a 30,000 square foot retail space and a 30,000 square foot medical building.

The joint venture partners said the new building, located at 247 Hurffville-Cross Keys Road, will be converted into a medical facility. They have already pre-leased 7,000 square feet to Axia Women’s Health, a growing network of those in the OB/GYN profession. It is expected to be completed or near ready by Spring 2021.

The 35-acre business center was initially planned to include 30,000 square feet of retail spread throughout three buildings, but Atkins and Woodmont recognized the local market’s need for additional medical space. Two of the three standalone, 10,000-square-foot buildings will or already include a blend of retail and medical tenants, including PetCheck Animal Urgent Care, Strive Physical Therapy and Sports Rehabilitation, Bison Coffee Company, Lavish Spa and Nails, and Jenaro’s Trattoria Italian restaurant.

“As we have brought our Washington Square Town Center project to life, we have seen a significant increase in demand for quality medical office space in a retail environment throughout the area,” Bob Atkins, managing partner of Atkins Companies, said. “Our Washington Square Town Center has quickly become one of the most sought-after locations for premier retail-oriented healthcare space. With increased demand from healthcare providers it only made sense to adjust our strategy to meet the needs of this fast-growing tenant population.”
