Report: N.J. ranks No. 15 among states for data breach victims

Take it for what it’s worth, but a new study says New Jersey ranks No. 15 among states for the most data breach victims.

SocialCatfish.com on Monday released a study, States with the Most Data Breaches, after analyzing data from the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center’s 2020 annual report.

New Jersey had 817 victims in 2020.

With nearly 9 million residents, New Jersey is the 11th-most populous state.

On these rankings, Virginia, Arizona, Washington and even Colorado (with just 5.7 million residents) ranked above New Jersey.

California, Florida, Texas, New York and Pennsylvania were the Top 5 states. South Dakota, with just 52 victims, had the fewest.

Nationally, 35,732 data breach cases have been reported in the U.S.
