The lockdown forced many people who likely never spent much time at home inside. But, has it made us appreciate where we live or have we become sick of the same things over and over again?
Unclutterer.com, a website for home and office organization, polled 3,500 individuals and found 19% of New Jerseyans admitted they are bored of their hometown following the lockdown and want to relocate somewhere new. In New York, 32% are bored; Pennsylvania, 25%; Delaware, 57%; and Maryland, 38%.
“The pandemic has made a lot of us look at things differently,” Alexander Brown of Unclutterer.com said. “Moving home is a big undertaking but worth it for the benefits you get if you choose more space and a more relaxed pace of life. Packing up a household can be hard, but it’s a good opportunity to get rid of all the things you don’t need any more, and organizing your new space.”
What’s clear, the survey noted, is that a lack of space has been hard to live with, with 29% of city dwellers in the Garden State interested in moving out to the suburbs or the country and 1 in 5 (16%) saying they have done some virtual house hunting during lockdown.
For those keen on staying where they are, nearly 1 in 5 homeowners said the lockdown made them want to improve their home in some way. Nearly half (46%) said they tried DIY projects around the house during that time.
The biggest priority for those who decide to move now is more outdoor space (39%), followed by 30% who want high speed broadband, 20% who want a larger kitchen, and 11% who want a study to work in.
