Legal Services Corp.’s Pro Bono Innovation Fund has awarded Northeast New Jersey Legal Services a grant of more than $423,000, it announced this week.
The grant to the organization, which is part of Legal Services of New Jersey and serves Bergen, Hudson and Passaic counties, will help it build a replicable model for pro bono services and tackle current challenges to its pro bono efforts, according to an LSC news release. The grants are intended to encourage and expand pro bono work to serve more low-income clients.
The grant is for $423,074, and will fund a pilot program, enable it to be scaled up and more.
“Pro bono assistance enables Northeast New Jersey Legal Services to leverage its limited government-funded staff resources with privately contributed services,” LSC President Ronald S. Flagg said in a prepared statement. “This grant will promote this leverage and help Northeast New Jersey Legal Services to assist many more people in need.”
Pro Bono Innovation Fund grants totaling nearly $4.35 million were awarded to 19 legal aid organizations this year.
