JCP&L donates 83K pounds of food to local organizations in wake of Tropical Storm Isaias

Following Tropical Storm Isaias, Jersey Central Power & Light, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp., said on Friday it donated more than 83,000 pounds of food to 10 food banks and religious organizations throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

The items were purchased to feed utility workers who were restoring service to about 800,000 customers after the storm surged through the region.

The donation, JCP&L said, was supplemented by a FirstEnergy Foundation contribution of $50,000.

The $71,000 donation, which included vegetables, beverages, dairy products, meats and frozen goods, was delivered on Aug. 17, providing about 100,000 meals for families in need. Combined with the FirstEnergy Foundation donation, area food banks received more than $120,000 in support.

“Our storm restoration efforts require a massive operation behind the scenes to support workers who come to New Jersey to help restore service to our customers,” Jim Fakult, President, JCP&L, said. “We are pleased to be able to use the surplus resources from our staging sites and the donation from the FirstEnergy Foundation to help local families put food on their tables during these difficult times.”
