Hackensack Meridian Raritan Bay Medical Center Old Bridge celebrated the topping-off of its new emergency department, the hospital announced Wednesday.
The Old Bridge hospital, part of the Hackensack Meridian Health system, placed the final steel structure atop the 24,000-square-foot expansion project that will more than double the current size of the ED.
Construction on the $39 million project began in October 2019. It is expected to open to the public in December 2021.
Raritan Bay Medical Center leaders and team members were on hand for the event, signing the steel structure for good luck before it was raised, symbolizing the completion of the project’s structural phase.
“Our emergency department has successfully served central New Jersey for more than four decades,” Thomas Shanahan, chief hospital executive, said in a prepared statement. “We simply outgrew the existing footprint. The new expansion will create a modern facility that can meet the evolving needs of our patients and solidify our commitment to providing the best patient-centered care to our growing community.”
The expansion was designed and is being built by Stantec and Turner Construction, in a collaborative joint venture.
