Prudential Financial Inc. announced this week that it has named a new chief marketing officer, leading the financial services firm’s global marketing and brand strategy to help drive profitable growth for it.
Susan Somersille Johnson will start in her new role Oct. 5, the Newark-based company said Thursday in a news release. She comes to Pru from Truist Financial, the bank holding company formed in 2019 by the merger of SunTrust Bank and BB&T, where she had been corporate executive vice president and chief marketing officer.
“Susan is a transformational leader with the vision and experience to build on the brand equity that a storied company like Prudential already enjoys,” Chairman and CEO Charles Lowrey said in a prepared statement. “We’re excited to see how Susan brings to life Prudential’s purpose, expertise and products for more people across the U.S. and around the world.”
Naveen Agarwal, who has served as the company’s CMO since 2019, will take on a new role as chief market development officer, Pru said. Agarwal, who joined Pru in 2015 as chief customer officer, will now focus on enabling U.S. growth by identifying and developing opportunities in various business sectors, among other responsibilities.
She has more than 25 years of marketing experience in her career, winning prominent accolades including two consecutive spots on Black Enterprise magazine’s Top 50 Most Powerful Women in Corporate America.
In her new role, she will report to Andy Sullivan, head of U.S. Businesses, and Scott Sleyster, head of International Businesses.
