Atlantic Health System has launched its Atlantic COVID Recovery Center, a multidisciplinary health care program focused on helping survivors of the coronavirus in their recovery.
The Morristown-based system said the program, which will be based in Cedar Knolls and Summit, will treat post-COVID conditions, such as fatigue, breathing difficulties, chest pain and more — which have lasted for months, in some cases.
“These patients are each having a unique and unprecedented experience, for which there is no one, singular roadmap,” Dr. Fred Cerrone of Pulmonary and Allergy Associates, part of the Atlantic Medical Group, said in a prepared statement. “Many of them can end up feeling as thought they are going through this alone.”
The recovery center provides a central point for patients to seek care and design an individualized recovery plan with health care providers, Atlantic said.
“By putting together a team of specialists from throughout our network, we can seamlessly connect and navigate these patients to the care they need, and work to help speed their recovery,” Dr. Scott Lauter, Atlantic Medical Group’s chief medical officer, said in a statement.
A patient care coordinator will guide patients to the appropriate specialist, as well as arranging follow-up care. Specialties in the program include pulmonary, cardiology, neurology, rehabilitation and more, as well as behavioral health specialists.
