St. Joseph’s Health names familiar face as its new CFO

St. Joseph’s Health has named a new chief financial officer, it announced this week, bringing a longtime health care executive back to New Jersey.

The Paterson-based health system said in a news release that Caswell Samms III will join the organization as a senior vice president and CFO. The 20-year veteran of the health care industry is coming from WellStar Health System in Georgia, where he is a VP and CFO.

He will start with St. Joseph’s on Dec. 7.

“Caswell’s depth of experience and commitment to financial health and stewardship will continue to build on St. Joseph’s strong financial foundation,” CEO and President Kevin Slavin said in a prepared statement. “We’re thrilled to welcome Caswell back to New Jersey and to the St. Joseph’s community.”

Samms has served in leadership positions with New York City Health and Hospitals, St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx and East Orange General Hospital. Early in his career, he was a business advisory specialist for what was then St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, in Paterson.
