N.J. optical components company makes acquisition

Barrington-based Edmund Optics, a provider of optical and imaging components, has acquired another optical components firm, it announced this week.

The deal for Quality Thin Films Inc., based in the Tampa, Florida, area, helps Edmund Optics grow its laser optics manufacturing capabilities, Edmund said in a news release.

“QTF, like Edmund Optics, has a long history of technical innovation and strong customer service,” Marisa Edmund, chief sales and marketing officer, and vice chair of the board of directors, said in a prepared statement. “Combining our strengths further demonstrates our commitment to the evolution of the industry through laser optics.”

The deal also includes QTF’s 14,000-square-foot facility, which second-generation leader Karl George Jr. will remain on board to oversee. QTF’s 30 employees will also join the Edmund Optics team, while CEO and President Karl George Sr. is retiring, Edmund said.

“QTF is critical to the long-term strategy of Edmund Optics,” President and Chief Operating Officer Samuel Sadoulet said in a prepared statement. “This acquisition will enhance our service to emerging markets and applications, while providing an opportunity for us to have a dedicated laser optics center.”

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
