Private-sector employment grew by 307,000 jobs in November, with smaller businesses leading the way, according to the latest report from ADP.
In its monthly ADP National Employment Report, the Roseland-based payroll and human resources company said medium-sized businesses with 50-499 employees added 139,000 jobs, while small businesses with less than 50 employees added 110,000 jobs for the month.
By contrast, large businesses with more than 500 workers added only 58,000 jobs.
“While November saw employment gains, the pace continues to slow,” Ahu Yildirmaz, vice president and co-head of the ADP Research Institute, said in a prepared statement. “Job growth remained positive across all industries and sizes.”
The service-providing sector added 276,000 jobs for the month, while the goods-producing sector added 31,000. Among industries, leisure and hospitality was the big winner, adding 95,000 positions, while education and health services added 69,000 and professional and business services added 55,000. In the goods sector, construction led the way with 22,000 job gains.
