Newark Museum of Art names Verizon’s Reed, Horizon’s Karp as board co-chairs

The Newark Museum of Art has named a pair of prominent executives co-chairs of its board of trustees, it announced this week.

Eric Fitzgerald Reed, vice president – public policy & community engagement for Verizon Communications, and Allen Karp, executive vice president of health care management and transformation at Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, will share the leadership of the board after being installed at the museum’s annual meeting earlier this month.

“We are delighted that Allen and Eric have accepted these roles to lead our board and help us seize the opportunities that present themselves during these challenging times,” Linda Harrison, museum CEO and director, said in a prepared statement. “These two individuals both bring expertise in innovation, technology and government relations that I know will prove invaluable for the museum.”

Karp and Reed, who had been members of the board, take over for former co-Chairs Clifford Blanchard and Christine Gilfillan, who served in the roles since 2017.

The museum, founded in 1909, is the largest art institution in New Jersey.
