The boutique offering of just 83 residences will feature expansive two-, three-, four- and even five-bedroom floor plans, many with dens — along with 1,200 to 2,700 square feet of living space — when they begin sales later this spring.
But more than that, the developers say the Wonder Lofts in Hoboken will come with a nod and appreciation of the city’s storied industrial past.
The residences are located at 720 Clinton St., the longtime site of the Wonder Bread Factory, which was opened in 1909.
Affectionally known in Hoboken as “The Wonder Bread Building,” it has been renovated to preserve and restore its original brick detail, archways, high ceilings, large window openings, smokestack and water tower, the developers said.
Dramatically reimagined for residential use, the conversion also showcases such modern additions as a façade of glass and light gray aluminum that add to and accentuate the restored original structure. The community also includes a newly constructed five-story building located across the street, which is home to 15 of the residences.
Wonder Lofts was created by two award-winning and renowned design firms, Hoboken-based MVMK Architecture + Design, which served as the project architect, and Manhattan-based Workshop/APD, which served as the interior designer.
These firms collaborated with an ownership team consisting of Prism Capital Partners, Angelo Gordon, and Parkwood Development and its exclusive sales and marketing agent, CORE.
The developers said Wonder Lofts was conceived as the civic successor to one of Hoboken’s most recognizable and historically significant sites. With pitch-perfect restoration and a design focused on style, comfort and room for growth, Wonder Lofts will continue its Clinton Street location’s legacy as a focal point of city life while ushering in a new generation of living in Hoboken.
Developers say the homes will blend preserved original architectural features and charm with contemporary finishes and functionality, including large window façades that bathe the homes in natural light, smart home entry systems, well-appointed designer kitchens and baths, abundant storage and walk-in closets. Uniquely, every home includes significant private outdoor space ranging up to 1,900 square feet.
Living at Wonder Lofts will include enjoying 14,400 square feet of shared indoor and outdoor amenities for an elevated lifestyle.
The highest rooftop, with its 360-degree views of the Manhattan skyline, all of Hoboken and beyond, is a beautifully landscaped patio lounge featuring an infinity-edge swimming pool with lounge chairs, a circular outdoor bar underneath the restored water tower, gas barbeque grills, and abundant dining and lounge seating areas with a fire pit.
An indoor residents’ lounge that opens to a lushly landscaped, outdoor terraced patio and garden features seating areas, a floor-to-ceiling brick, double-faced fireplace, an open concept dining room and entertainment kitchen, and an adjacent billiards room.
Developers say families will appreciate the building’s children’s art center, complete with padded floors, bean bag seating, toys and a children’s library, while a full gym and fully equipped yoga/Pilates studio will keep residents healthy in body and mind. The building also boasts of a two-story lobby with attended concierge, a pet grooming area that will provide a pleasant space for residents to pamper their furry family members, and a secure onsite parking garage with electric car charging stations.
