A little more than a week away from when all New Jerseyans over 16 are eligible to be vaccinated, the state announced it has hit two major milestones:
- More than 5 million doses have been administered;
- More than 2 million residents are fully vaccinated.
New Jersey has approximately 8.9 million residents, of which approximately 6.7 million are adults.
Gov. Phil Murphy has said he wants to vaccinate 70% of the adult population — or about 4.7 million people — in six months. The timeline of when that period starts and ends is slightly unclear; it could be Memorial Day or the Fourth of July.
It took the state less than a month to go from 1 million fully vaccinated to 2 million, a rate that is determined as much by the number of doses available as the state’s ability to administer them.
On April 19, all New Jerseyans 16 and over will be eligible to be vaccinated.
