NJM’s expansion plans include more than just increasing its geographic footprint. On Tuesday, the West Trenton-based insurer announced its efforts to increase its reach among small businesses.

NJM, which has been a leader in workers’ compensation and commercial auto insurance, introduced its ProEdge Businessowners Policy, which it feels will provide various coverage options for both property and liability risks, along with industry-specific coverage options.

Liability coverage under a BOP will provide protection against claims for bodily injury or property damage resulting from your business operations, NJM officials said. This coverage also helps cover the cost of a legal defense in the event a business is sued.

Property insurance under a BOP can cover the physical building your business owns, as well as the personal property used by your business. Business personal property can include furniture, inventory, tools and equipment located at your business.

And, if more coverage is needed, NJM also is offering commercial excess and umbrella insurance. These policies offer higher limits of liability protection and expand coverage for international operations and newly acquired businesses, NJM officials said.

The offerings come during a period in which NJM is transitioning into a regional firm.

NJM CEO Mitch Livingston said the policies are new, but the company’s mission remains the same.

“NJM has a proud legacy of serving New Jersey business owners with value-based insurance solutions with a focus on service,” he said. “Our new commercial policies allow us to expand on this commitment to businesses throughout the state.”

The policies are appropriate for businesses of all sizes, including independent contractors, Livingston said.

NJM specifically noted the following sectors and industries:

  • Contractors;
  • Professional services;
  • Real estate;
  • Restaurant/food services;
  • Retail;
  • Services;
  • Wholesale/distributors.

Arjay Pedalino, NJM vice president of commercial lines, said the new products are a welcome offering.

“NJM has been protecting customers through uncertain times for 108 years,” he said. “We are excited to partner with our premier agent network to provide our ProEdge Businessowners Policy and commercial excess and umbrella policy and help businesses thrive.”

The product launch comes at a time when NJM is implementing its multiyear strategic plan, widening its geographic footprint as a regional carrier. The company is among the leading writers of workers’ compensation insurance in the mid-Atlantic region. It offers business insurance in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.
