George Kendall, one of the top health care and finance attorneys in the region, has returned to McCarter & English, the firm recently announced.
Kendall, who was previously a partner with the firm from 1994 to 2008, has advised clients on strategic transactions, regulatory compliance, governance, value-based care models and hospital-physician alignment for more than 30 years. Kendall is a trusted adviser to boards of directors and executive management teams at hospitals and health systems.
“It’s a pleasure to return to McCarter to work again with so many outstanding lawyers and practice groups,” Kendall said. “The firm’s platform supports my practice perfectly. I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues to continue to grow and strengthen our health care practice.”
Kendall joins McCarter from Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath in Florham Park.
Kendall’s practice primarily focuses on representing health care providers — including hospitals and health systems, behavioral health providers, home health agencies and physician groups — on strategic transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, restructurings, joint ventures, change-of-member transactions and other types of business deals.
Kendall also advises health care organizations and their boards on governance matters and compliance issues. He counsels health systems on implementing efficient governance models and practices following periods of substantial growth. Kendall also advises clients on privacy and tax laws, self-referral restrictions and other state and federal regulations, and defends clients in governmental and internal investigations, including fraud and abuse and Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act matters.
Scott Kobler, head of McCarter’s health care practice and widely recognized for his work in health care, praised Kendall.
“We are thrilled to have George rejoin our firm, where he practiced with distinction for so many years,” he said. “His excellent reputation and deep knowledge of the health care industry, its regulations and its governance structures will greatly benefit our clients.
“His personal dedication to client service complements the approach of our comprehensive team as we address the legal needs of health care providers across a broad range of business issues.”
Kendall graduated, cum laude, from Villanova University School of Law and from Franklin and Marshall College. He is a member of the New Jersey Bar.
