Gov. Phil Murphy will announce Monday that fully vaccinated people no longer will be required to wear a mask indoors in time for Memorial Day, according to a report by New Jersey Advance Media.
NJAM said the new rules will go into effect May 28 — next Friday.
The change means New Jersey will now follow the recently released guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which said fully vaccinated people can go without mask indoors.
A week ago, Murphy said the state was not ready to follow the guidelines — one of just a few states to go against the guidelines of the CDC.
“I have to say, at this moment in time, we are not there yet,” he said then.
On Monday, he repeated those thoughts.
“I just don’t want to get burned,” he said. “On this one, we feel quite strongly.”
